CBTC – New signalling system for the Oslo Metro

Today, the Oslo Metro operates on signalling systems that were installed as early as the 1960s.

Sporveien is now modernizing and digitalizing the existing signalling infrastructure by introducing the new CBTC (Communication Based Train Control) system. With CBTC, trains will automatically adjust their spacing, allowing them to run closer together. This enables more departures, improved punctuality, and smoother traffic flow on the tracks.

Deployment of CBTC across the Metro network is scheduled for 2025–2029* *Subject to change

Sporveien required an experienced O&M (Operation & Maintenance) advisor in a full-time role for the project, and the position was awarded to Rytec.

Key responsibilities carried out in this project include:

  • Supporting the head of the O&M discipline in CBTC-related tasks
  • Ensuring clarification and transfer of relevant technical regulations for O&M
  • Securing involvement of users and maintenance personnel in the CBTC project
  • Providing regular clarifications with other functions in the CBTC project
  • Participating in evaluation of CBTC tenders with respect to requirements, Service Level
  • Agreements (SLA), and Key Performance Indicators (KPI)
  • Contributing to other project tasks within the O&M discipline as needed
  • Independently planning, managing, and completing tasks assigned to the role
  • Representing the O&M discipline in relevant meetings
  • Acting as a representative for the maintenance organization within the project

Sporveien has extended the agreement by activating the option for continued support from Rytec.
